Love letters has been one of the Bear's favourite Chinese New Year snacks. #everythingalsolike This year, my mum decided that I should do it the traditional way. We then went hunting for the letter love mould and stove. Getting the stove was a challenge. Went to quite a number of old cookware stores but was put off by uncles saying that we should just buy the ready made love letters instead. 'Too much work! ' 'Nowadays where have people still use charcoal to make love letter? ', were the response they gave. But we were quite determined to make the love letters the traditional way and I started asking my friends to keep a look out for me. And yes, one of my bestie actually managed to find the stove and bought it for me! #lovehertobits

Will you bake your love letters the traditional way too?
Love Letters
Adapted from Nasi Lemak Lover
Ingredients
12 eggs
350 g caster sugar
500 g coconut milk
200 g rice flour
200 g glutinous rice flour
1/8 tsp salt
Method
In a large bowl, whisk eggs
and sugar till well combined.
Sift rice flour, glutinous
rice flour and salt into the coconut milk.
Pour flour mixture into
the egg mixture and whisk till well combined.
Strain the batter and let
it rest for one hour.
Prepare the charcoal
stove.
Lightly grease the love
letter mould with cooking oil and heat up the mould over the stove.
Pour a ladle of batter
onto the mould and close tightly, before placing in back on the stove. Trim the
sides off with a knife and flip the mould to get an even colour.
When golden, remove the
love letter from the mould and roll it up immediately using a rod.
Cool completely before
storing.
